| CENTRE EDUCATION PROGRAMME: STUDENT BODY |
It would wrong to suggest that any one
trait is typical of a Centre Ed student. The multifarious mix of 13 –
18 year olds are united by a common view; that a mainstream structure
is not their ideal path to further education or employment. Within
their eclectic curriculum mix Centre Ed cater for young people from all
walks of life that need to access flexible learning options in order to
re-engage in learning to complete Year 12 or equivalent. The program
also boasts an indigenous unit that attracts local young indigenous
students. Among the Centre’s ‘target audience’ include:
• Young people with very poor literacy and numeracy skills
• Young people who have had contact with the juvenile justice system or
are in the care of the Department of Child Safety
• Young people who have had repeated difficulty conforming to the
behaviour requirements of mainstream education and training
• Young people with mental illness or at risk of engaging in self harming behaviours or substance abuse
• Young people who have been excluded from school and those with a generational history of early school leaving
• Homeless young people
• Young parents
• Young people Young people with a generational history of unemployment.
